Forest of Second Chances

Clay and watercolor on found wood. 2023.

The branches used in this work were plucked from the ground just up the hill from my studio. The hand-sculpted roses in this piece were made for other works and ultimately rejected. Here, both nature and sculpture are given second chances. The branches are now canvases for sculpture and broad, dark strokes of line, and the roses, each repainted by hand with watercolor several times to elicit multi-dimensional hues, now come together as a spectrum of possibility.
